Origins of Oktoberfest

The roots of Oktoberfest trace back to October 12, 1810, when Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The citizens of Munich were invited to join in the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to commemorate the royal union. The event was a grand success, and it was decided to make it an annual tradition.

Over the years, the festival evolved and expanded, becoming the widely recognized Oktoberfest we know today. It grew beyond its initial wedding celebration to encompass a broader celebration of Bavarian culture and, of course, its exceptional brewing traditions.
