CELEBRATING INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH UNITY: STARWORKS OUTING EVENT
Indonesia's Independence Day is a time for reflection and celebration, honoring past heroes for their service to the country while also embracing the values of unity, resilience, and collaboration. During this time, many ceremonies are held across the country, as well as activities and games to celebrate joy, unity, and collaboration. These are the values that StarWORKS wholeheartedly upholds through our special outing to commemorate the annual Independence Day celebration. This beloved company tradition celebrates camaraderie and the strong bonds we've built as a team. Every year, we try something new, and this year, we decided to host an outing event with a variety of games, a fashion show, and an outdoor picnic. The event was full of laughter, high energy, teamwork, and stronger bonds between team members, leaving not only warm memories but also a renewed sense of belonging.
What happened during the event?
Indonesia celebrates Independence Day on August 17th. Almost every location in the country celebrates this day with a special ceremony, including government buildings, schools, banks, and even businesses. Citizens across the country also typically create various games to celebrate with their neighbors, coworkers, or friend groups. These games, known as "Agustusan," are a series of team-based games designed to strengthen human bonds. StarWORKS also organized similar activities and games for our team members to enjoy and express their creativity, trust, and collective strength.
A showcase of creativity through a Fashion Show
The event's theme was "sporty," and everyone was encouraged to wear something fun and unique associated with their favorite sport. The event began with a lively fashion show in which participants walked with style, humor, and confidence to show off their sport outfits. Some even let their imaginations run wild and designed their own costumes from scratch. The fashion show provided an opportunity for everyone to support their peers, celebrate individuality, and remember that self-expression is an important component of teamwork.
Finding balls with eyes closed
The next challenge was to find balls with your eyes closed while wearing a party hat, which required a lot of trust and communication. Participants were blindfolded and had to locate hidden balls using only their teammates' voices as guidance. The team with the most balls collected will win. It was an effective exercise in listening, giving clear directions, and trusting others, all of which mirror the collaborative skills we use on a daily basis at work.
Relay Race games
The relay race games evoked a sense of healthy competition. This game is made up of three main games that are completed with an estaphet: a game in which participants must collect cups as quickly as possible, a game in which participants must pull balls from a cardboard box tied to their body, and a game in which participants must move a ball from one location to another by constructing a rail with rope. This game emphasizes the value of each member's contribution, teaching us that success is achieved when everyone collaborates and accepts responsibility for their roles.
The ultimate jump rope challenge
The jump rope challenge, a physically demanding yet entertaining game, completed the activities. Every team member had to push themselves to jump rope for three minutes while the audience cheered them on. The team that makes the most jumps is considered the winner. The game reminded us that perseverance, resilience, and a sense of humor can lead to great success.
The event concluded with an outdoor picnic, where we shared delicious food and handed out numerous prizes to all participants and winners. The outing was enjoyable and exciting, but it served a much deeper purpose. Each game represented a core value (creativity, trust, teamwork, and resilience) that underpins our company culture. More importantly, the event allowed us to get away from our desks, connect on a more personal level, and strengthen the bonds that will carry us through both challenges and successes.
